APITONG

Family: Dipterocarpaceae

Other name: himpagkatan (Samar), alakak (Palawan), acete (Zambales)

Description: Apitong is a species of flowering plant in the Dipterocarpaceae family the  tree grows up to 45 meters high. it become endangered in 2017 under the IUCN Red List of threatened species. The tree is exellent in nitrogen fixing,  soil improvement and watershed regulation.

Uses: Decoction of bark used to treat rheumatism and liver complaints. Timber is used for construction and pulpwood for paper production. Bark extracts can be a source of tannin and dye stuff.
